Alissa & John

February 18, 2017 // Charleston, SC

Our Story

How He Proposed

It started out like any other Saturday; John was up early to work out and I was still sleeping. After working up a sweat, he came upstairs, kissed me on the head and told me he was taking the dog for a walk. I mumbled and turned over. A few minutes later, my phone started ringing. I never have my phone on loud so I was unpleasantly startled as I looked to see who it was. Of course, it was John. I answered the phone with a groggy "hello". John sounded so excited. He told me our dog, Riley, was being so cute and that I had to hurry and look out the window at what she was doing. The fact that I had just woken up, I was not in an eager mood to jump out of bed and rush to the window. So, I slowly made my way over to the window and lifted up the blind with one finger just enough to see outside. To my surpsise, what I saw when I looked out the window was John on one knee with the words "Will You Marry Me?" written across our sidewalk. Still on the phone with him, I said "wait, WHAT?!". I had to rub my eyes and open the blinds to see what was happening. He started laughing and told me to come downstairs. I rushed down the stairs and out to the driveway to meet him and the dog. I got to him and he asked "will you marry me"? I was so excited and eager that I said YES! and took the ring out of the box and put it on myself. I could not believe it. I was still half asleep and couldn't really process what was happening so I just kept looking at him and at the ring. We went back inside and he had champagne waiting for us. It may have taken 7 1/2 years, but it was well worth the wait! ♥

Our Wedding Party

Best Man

AJ Nichols

We've been best friends since our freshman year at Coastal. AJ moved back to Charleston after that year and I made it my mission to come down as often as I could. I moved to Charleston shortly after graduation and lived with AJ until Alissa graduated and moved down. I couldn't ask for a better person to have by my side as I marry Alissa.

Maid of Honor

Cathryn Cramer

I've known Cathryn my whole life. We played sports together, had sleepovers and cookouts, and pretty much did everything together. Our parents started dating when we were in sixth grade and got married in 2011. Now, not only do I get to call her my best friend, but my sister, too. I'm so glad she'll be by my side as I marry John.

Matron of Honor

Niki Graef

I've been so lucky to have such an amazing sister-in-law. From the first time I met Niki back in 2005, I knew she was something special. She's hilarious, super caring and sweet, and most of all, she would do anything for me. I'm so glad she's part of my life and so excited she'll be next to me on my big day.
